FASHION

Our support of fast-fashion (quick, low-cost fashion) is devastating our planet.

Did you know that 2 billion pairs of jeans are produced each year and that each pair requires around 7,000 litres of water to produce? Not to mention, each year more than 120 million trees are cut down and 1.7 million tonnes of toxic chemicals leach into our water systems, impacting the health of both humans and animals. Unfortunately, the environmental impact of fashion doesn’t end there as there is a huge waste problem, not just during the manufacture but also by consumers who are now discarding clothes at an alarming rate in favour of the latest trend.

HOW

  • Reject fast fashion by buying less clothing.
  • keep track of how much you buy and make an effort to reduce this number.
  • Choose clothing made locally or from more sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton which is made without toxic chemicals and less water.
  • Consider buying second hand clothing; there are great platforms for this including vinted.co.uk and even local charity shops.
  • Look after your clothing and buy pieces that will last longer than 30 wears.
  • Finally, fall back in love with the clothes already in your wardrobe!
